We leave Nagpur by 8 am after Breakfast ,
Visit Anandwan, Then Centre of Sciences for Villages Sewagram –Lunch –Paunar Ashram and back by evening to Nagpur.
Mahatma Gandhi made Sewagram, near Wardha , his home from 1936 till his death in 1948. The Mahatma inspired many individuals to serve the society in many different ways and in this circuit one gets the opportunity to visit some of them also.
Sewagram Ashram is an experience in itself. Its well preserved cottages and serene surrounds and the Exhibition unfold the most historic period just before India became independent from British rule.
Followed by a visit to Bhoodan Movement Leader and a revered disciple of Gandhiji – Acharya Vinoba Bhave’s Paunar Ashram. /he was an Indian advocate of nonviolence and human rights.
Next is visit to The Centre of Sciences for Villages (CSV) which is doing pioneering work in bringing simple & affordable technologies to improve the quality of life. CSV started functioning in 1976 by its founder Chairman and Director Late Dr. Devendra Kumar from the premises of Maganwadi in Wardha from where Mahatma Gandhi began the “All India Village Industries Association” (AIVIA) in 1934.
We then proceed to another great disciple and Magsaysay Awardee, Baba Amte’s Anand Van, literally the Garden of Joy , a Centre for Rehabilitation of Leprosy patients to see the near miracle achieved by this saint like Doctor . Beautiful gardens, handicrafts and handlooms all done by the rehabilitated patients. They even have an orchestra of their own.
These Excavations have resulted in the discovery of 5th AD shrines and a palace complex , identified as Pravarapura, the capital of the Vakataka king Pravarasena II . Adjacent to this palace, on Hidimba Tekri.
Kalidas Smarak, Ramtek, a memorial in Ramtek Taluk of Nagpur District. It is said that Kalidasa completed his epic Meghdootam, one of his most famous works here.
A nice one day getaways from Nagpur by road. A historical fort atop a hill and has an ancient Ram Temple inside with many artifacts of the erstwhile Bhonsale Rulers.
Ambala Lake At the foothills of the Ramtek Temple is an entity surrounded by the reminisces of Lord Rama and that of Narsimha, the slayer of the demon Hiranykashyapu.
The square shaped palace inside the fort has an outer rampart with bastions and had an inner wall surrounding the buildings. The main gate of the fort on the north-west side is still in good condition.
Kapurbawdi-Sinduragiri trek on Ramtek Hill. The trek stretching over 5.5km will be an invigorating walk. Kapurbawdi, an ancient temple and artificial water reservoir at the base of the hill.
